I never check my luggage, even if I plan to be away for several weeks. There are so many reasons for packing light, but that is a discussion for another day! Just because I pack light, doesn’t mean I’m not prepared.
Here are my pick 6 packing tips:
- I always take along various sizes of zip-lock plastic bags. These become very handy for storing all kinds of things, in addition to food, and they don’t take up much space.
- Large vacuum bags are also very useful. I take them but never use them when packing for my destination. During my travels, I use them for dirty clothes, wet items, etc. On the way home, I use the vacuum feature, allowing for more room for all of those fun souvenirs!
- So ladies, if you’re like me, you need to have a clean washcloth every day. For some odd reason, hotels outside of the U.S. don’t often provide them! I pack disposable cloths, the Handiwipe type, and simply throw them away after use.
- I just discovered this one. I recently purchased a microfiber travel blanket which I love. It rolls up into a small pouch when not in use. It’s so light weight and surprisingly warm. It’s great for use on those chilly planes, but I especially like to use it at night instead of those heavy hotel quilts. They come in several colors and can even be used as a wrap.
- My favorite pants for travel are Chico’s Zenergy Neema pants. The fabric is lightweight, packs down to nothing, doesn’t wrinkle and dries quickly. You can easily wash these in the sink at night and they are dry by the morning. I just wish they came in more sophisticated styles for those dressy occasions. More colors options would be great too, but the ever-favorite black is always available.
- For tops, my recent finds are by Vince Camuto. These chiffon sleeveless tops are roomy, comfortable and long enough to cover the derriere. But, they are also stylish when tucked into the right pants.
